Last Post :(

What did you like about the class? I liked that you didn't just lecture us, you actually made psychology interesting.
What was your favorite activity or project? Play-doh brain!
What didn't you like about the class? I actually learnt from doing the vocabulary for each chapter so when we stopped doing them, the tests got harder for me.
What do you think I should leave out next year? I think you should add some stuff like more social psychology.
Do you have any suggestions or ideas for things I could do next year in AP Psych? Maybe one more project.
Do you have any suggestions or ideas for next semester in AP Econ? Not really, I enjoyed that way you taught psych so I know that you'll be a great AP Econ teacher as well.
See you next semester (and Decathlon.....State!!)!

Procrastination

We are all familiar with procrastination but as we grow into adults, will we continue our habits? A worrisome 15 to 20 percent of adults routinely put off activities that would be better accomplished right away and according to a 2007 meta-analysis by Steel, procrastination plagues a whopping 80 to 95 percent of college students, whose packed academic schedules and frat-party-style distractions put them at particular risk. Research into the reasons people put off projects has led to strategies for helping all of us get and stay on task.

Most of us engage in other activities when we should be, instead, completing what must be done. Then, we complain that we ran out of time. Peter Gollwitzer of New York University and the University of Konstanz in Germany advises creating “implementation intentions,” which specify where and when you will perform a specific behavior. More simply, they advise procrastinators to “just get started.” Remember, the anticipation of the task often is far worse than the task turns out to be.

Personality

Jung Typology Test
I am 75% intuitive, 67% judging, 11% introverted and 1& thinking. I am judgemental but I think 67% is a little harsh. The other results seem reasonable to me. I guess the test is not extremely reliable, however, it is somewhat valid.
Personality Lab
The scores are out of 100. Extraversion (50), Agreeableness (65), Conscientiousness (78), Neuroticism (20), Openness to Experience (59). I don't really tend to be sociable so I don't think 50 is low enough for extraversion. I am also extremely stubborn and usually get my way so agreeableness is high as well. The conscientiousness score is reasonable. I am responsible and usually organized. The neuroticism score is reasonable as well. Although I cry easily, I usually don't express my emotions. The Openness to experience score should be a bit higher. I love change and am always excited to experience new things. This test is not very valid.
Planet Personality
My interpersonal and work styles are high while my expressive and intellectual styles are medium and my emotional style is low. I think they are all about right except for my emotional style. I do get easily frustrated and so this does not make sense.
Explain Your Brain
Supposedly, I am attracted to intelligent, trendy and cheerful individuals. I do not think this was a valid test because the guys voluntarily uploaded their pictures and so they had certain qualities while lacking others.
EQ Level
According to this test, I have very high emotional intelligence. I had a score of 47. Although I quite like the results, this test is not exactly valid. Many of the questions asked about managers who supposedly worked under me but I am a student so I just picked the most likely answer.

Dear Dad

Dear Dad,
College is not as great as I would like it to be. I don't know if I can trust my "friends." I think they are lying to me. I don't feel like I can confide in them. They might use it against me. Last week, Kayla lied to me about her boyfriend. I can't believe she did not want me to know. I will never forgive her for lying to me. Also, although no one has confirmed it, she probably spread rumors about me. I think she told people that I am parsimonious. I like to save money but she is just the meanest person in the world to say that about me. Also, I am not sure if Shane is faithful with me. I am sure he hooked up with Kayla. I have never seen them together but something tells me that he is cheating on me with her. Anyways, I cannot wait to come home for Christmas. I miss you. I hope you are not going to tell others about the content of this letter. I will never forgive you if you decieve me. Well, I guess I'll wait for your reply.
Love,
Hazel

Amy has Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Separation Anxiety Disorder

Amy, age 38, is a worrier. She is restless, irritable and has difficulty concentrating. She worries that she worries so much and isn’t always sure what it is that she is worried about. She can’t let her husband or children leave the house without making them call her regularly to reassure her that they are ok. Her husband is growing weary of her fretting. Her children can’t understand what all the fuss is about. Their impatience with her only makes her worry more.

Diagnoses
Amy is probably diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) as well as Separation Anxiety Disorder. She has three of the symptoms required for her to be labeled as having GAD: restlessness, irritability and difficulty concentrating. Also, she worries not only about herself but also about her family making them call her regularly to reassure her of their safety. This proves the presence of Separation Anxiety Disorder.

Treatments
Amy can take medications for GAD. These medications are sometimes referred to as "tranquilizers," because they leave you feeling calm and relaxed. They work by decreasing the physical symptoms of GAD, such as muscle tension and restlessness. Antidepressants, such as Paxil and Effexor, can also being used to treat her GAD. Another method, called Cognitive-behavioral therapy, which I recommend more than medications, can treat both disorders. This type of therapy helps limit distorted thinking by looking at worries more realistically. Family therapy may be appropriate to tease out the family issues that may be contributing to the Amy's anxiety.

Battling Depression: Owen Wilson

Owen Wilson is an American actor and writer. Wilson was previously linked with actress Demi Moore, singer Sheryl Crow and, most recently, with the actress Kate Hudson. His relationship with Hudson ended in May 2007. The police were called to Wilson's Santa Monica residence on August 26th, 2007. Wilson was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for treatment, and his attorney later confirmed that the actor had been taking antidepressants. He is said to have attempted suicide by slashing his wrists and taking an overdose of pills.

Because of his hospitalization, Wilson was forced to drop out of the cast of the comedy "Tropical Thunder". "I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," said the star of "Wedding Crashers." Later, however, he did appear in early October at the premier of "The Darjeeling Limited," a comedy about three brothers on a train voyage through India in which he stars.

Depression interferes with daily life and is not merely a temporary mood. Patients diagnosed with depression should be treated immediately and if the syndrome continuous, they should be put on suicide watch. Antidepressents, contrary to popular belief, do not cure serious depression. A recent study in the Journal of American Psychiatry found that antidepressants may be responsible for a rise in the risk of suicide among teenagers. And some researchers believe that antidepressants pose similar risks for some adults as well.
